Over The Years..
Timeline
1981 - Incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Illinois Corporation.  Sponsored conferences, family camps, and other
recreational and educational programs.

1987 - We receive an initial $55,000 grant from the State of Illinois to begin providing day services to five
individuals.  Training is held in a rented classroom at the former Mary Queen of Heaven parochial school in
Elmhurst, IL.  RRAF is one of the first community agencies in the state to accept adults with autism.

1990 - Founding father, Sam Lapertosa, Sr. passes away.

1991 - Founding mother, Rosemary Lapertosa passes away.  

1992 - Programming services move to a larger, more community based site in Elmhurst, IL.

1997 - RRAF receives its first accreditation award through CARF, the Rehabilitation Accreditation
Commission.  We receive a three year accreditation, the highest award possible.

2001 - RRAF purchases, remodels, and moves its operations to 613 South Main Street in Lombard.  

2003 - RRAF purchases the property next to ours at 619 South Main Street; the former owner remains as a
tenant.

2006 - Remodeling of the 619 building/parking lot is completed.  Day services expand.   

2007 -  Dennis Lake, a Board Member and Treasurer since 1991, passes away.

2011 - Executive Director/President, Marilyn Flanagan, becomes a surveyor for CARF.

2013 -  Sally Field Mullan joins the Board of Directors.

2014 - Marilyn Flanagan joins the Board of Directors.

2015 - Sally Field Mullan is elected President; Marilyn Flanagan assumes the role of Senior Vice President,
Finance and Business Operations, while continuing to fulfill the role of Executive Director.

2019 -  For the 21st time in 23 years RRAF’s Community Day Services program receives 100% when it is
surveyed by the Department of Human Services.  RRAF also receives its eight consecutive three-year
accreditation award through CARF, International in the area of Community Integration.

2020 -  The COVID-19 pandemic meant the mandated closure of our Community Day Services program,
beginning on March 16, 2020.  As of July 1st we opened as a licensed DT site serving private pay individuals.  
At August 1st we did a soft-open with state funding at 25% capacity/census.  Since September 1st we are now
fully opened at a 50% capacity/census level.  We are continuing to be as fluid and flexible as possible.  Also in
September Lisa Grzywa joins the Board of Director.
